I have so much to say about pain. About preventing it about managing it but first about honouring that it’s there and that it exists.
I want to demystify so many myths around pain.
I want to share all the tricks and tips I’ve learned over the last decades but first, let me start with a tool; a pain scale that you can download and use when you or someone you love is feeling pain or discomfort.
I know you are wondering: ‘’how can such a simple tool have an impact?''
First by believing the pain is there (even when we don’t see any precise symptoms). If we can measure something, it exists.
Secondly by honouring the person’s assessment of how intense the pain is for them at this moment it reminds us that pain is a subjective experience. Only the patient can tell us if and how much pain they are in.
Being validated that our pain is one, real. and that we are the only ones who can attest to that appeases the pressure we may be feeling around our truth and legitimacy and that my dear ones, automatically makes us feel more comfortable.
When we are less scared we feel less pain. -Sparadrap
I will share more in the upcoming months, I promise. Let’s start with this. Please go ahead and download the Pain scale below.
One step at a time, we will get there. Together towards a more comfortable medical world.
